**1st week - Friday 16th October - Freshers' Moot**

**2nd week - Sunday 18th October - Tolkien's Oxford Tour**

Christ Church - Tom Gate (front entrance) - 2pm

Get your bearings and enjoy a relaxed guided tour, full of triviata about the Professor's city. Around two hours, after which we will retire to a room or pub. Final details dependent on weather - so check your email!

**2nd week - Thursday 22nd October - Film night: Born of Hope**

**2nd Week - Friday 23rd October - Dramatic Readings**

Christ Church - Bayne Room - 8pm

Join us to read out passages from our favourite Tolkien or related work. Appealing to the thespian in each of us, we practice and perform various scenes in a suitably ir/reverent fashion. Bring along your favourite and pick a passage!

**3rd Week - Friday 30th October - Film-dubbing**

Christ Church - Lecture Room 2 - 8pm

After the success of the event in the last two terms, we'll be attempting to cause even more hilarity by dubbing over sections of the LotR and Hobbit films with our own alternative voiceover... bring a selection of funny voices!

**4th Week - Friday 6th November - Mathom exchange evening**

Christ Church - Bayne Room - 8pm

"...for anything that Hobbits had no immediate use for, but were unwilling to throw away, they called a mathom."

A party with a twist. Bring along your least wanted possession. You will leave with someone else's. It can get competitive as we argue why we least need the item on offer!

4th Week - Saturday 7th November - Gandalf's Fireworks

Meet at Magdalen Bridge - 6pm

Celebrate the season of frosty nights and clear night skies with a fireworks party fit to rival those of Gandalf himself! A roaring bonfire, hot baked potatoes, mulled wine, and an assortment of cakes to ward off the winter chills. (There is a £2 charge to cover cost of food.)

5th Week - Thursday 12th November - The Geek Quiz

Magdalen - Daubeny Lecture Theatre - 8pm

In the legendary Geek Quiz, members of Oxford's geekiest societies get together in teams in order to battle it out for the crown of "team who won that term". A really fun evening, and who knows, we might even get an answer right occasionally...

5th Week - Friday 13th November - Speaker Evening: Edmund Weiner

Christ Church - Lecture Room 2 - 8pm

Edmund Weiner, the Oxford English Dictionary's Chief Philologist, will be addressing the Society on the subject of The Origins of Elvish. There will possibly be dinner with Mr Weiner beforehand, for which registration will be necessary - watch your inboxes nearer the time!

6th Week - Wed 18th November - Kalevala Evening

Harris Manchester College - Chapel - 7:30pm

In the wake of the recent release of Tolkien's version of the Story of Kullervo, together with the Oxford University Music Society the Society is very excited to be hosting the Finnish folk music duo Kallaton for an evening of music and readings related to the Kalevala, the Finnish national epic so beloved of Tolkien.

6th Week - Friday 20th November - Whose ring is it anyway?

Christ Church - Lecture Room 2 - 8pm

Frantic improvisation is the name of the day, with some, little or no relation to Tolkien according to taste. Bring props!

7th Week - Thursday 26th November - Miruvor evening

Christ Church - Bayne Room - 8pm

Miruvor, the Society's magazine, was recently published in a special issue for the Society's 25th anniversary last year. It also exists as a blog. Come along to discuss ideas for articles for next term's issue, and look at copies of Miruvors past, as well as, of course, the usual fun, food, and Tolkien frivolity.
