Investigating Plant Growth Using AVS

So just how do roots grow?

We're using AVS to try to determine the 3-D cellular architecture of Arabidopsis roots. We are then trying to understand the sequence of cell divisions which produce the patterns seen in the root by trying to interpret the 'history' of cell divisions from the 3-D cellular architecture.

The 3D slices are acquired using confocal microscopy techniques.
