Welcome to the Oxford Doctor Who Society website!

We are a University Society formed in 1989, shortly before the initial run of Doctor Who ended, to meet regularly and appreciate the best (and worst) of the fondly-remembered show, usually watching video tapes gathered around small televisions.

Nowadays, in much the same spirit, we meet regularly to appreciate the best (and worst) of the now enormously successful show, usually watching DVDs gathered around larger televisions, with varying degrees of mild-mannered heckling, followed by a communal trip to the pub.

Anybody is welcome to come along to one of our meetings, although those coming on a regular basis are encouraged to pay our membership fee - £5 for a year, £15 for life, payable to our Treasurer. This goes towards paying for the running costs of the society, notably including free drinks at the subsequent year's Fresher's Drinks, so come along and enjoy a cocktail for your contribution to the Society's continued existence!

The full list of society meetings, with dates, times and locations, can be found on our termcard page. Details of the various locations used for meetings are found here.

The society is managed by the committee, chosen by the body of the society in (vaguely) democratic elections each Hilary Term. Any member of the society is invited (and encouraged) to stand in these elections. A full list of the current committee, with names, colleges, brief biographies and pictures can be found here.

The Society Library, maintained by the Keeper of the Scrolls, currently inhabits a shoe-box which sometimes makes an appearance at meetings. A full list of the books in the library is here, and any society member is able to borrow or request books by contacting the Keeper.

We also publish a magazine at irregular intervals called The Tides of Time, which contains a variety of articles related to the society or Doctor Who in general. The archives of the magazine are currently found on an external website here.

Members of the Society may be interested in our Constitution, and the many in-jokes contained therein.

This site underwent a major revision in Easter 2012 - the previous version up to Hilary Term 2012 can be found archived here.

You are currently viewing our fully-featured desktop site. For the mobile version, which is slimmed down and optimised for smaller screens, please click here.

A number of banners have been created for the website over time: a full gallery of these, with annotations, is available here.
