Dr. Alba Diaz was born in 1981 in Oviedo (Asturias, Spain). She got her Degree (2003), M. Sc. (2005) and Ph. D. in Chemistry (2008) at the University of Oviedo under the supervision of Prof. Vicente Gotor. Her research was devoted to the development of chemoenzymatic synthesis of new nucleosides and the use of lipases as biocatalysts for the preparation of compounds with antiviral activity. During her Ph. D., she spent six months at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). In 2008, she moved to the University of Valencia as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Gregorio Asensio, in a project in collaboration with Prof. Pedro Perez (Huelva). In October 2009, she joined the BGD group with a postdoctoral fellowship. Her research interests are focused on (bio)catalysis, enzyme promiscuity and protein engineering. Besides enjoying her hours in the lab, she likes music (dancing and singing- even in the lab!), sushi, snowboarding and football.
