Ben was brought up near Sheffield in South Yorkshire shortly working as an estate and letting agent before moving to St Andrews for an undergraduate degree. Ben spent time at St Andrews working with: R. Alan Aitken on heterocycle synthesis by flash vacuum pyrolysis; Terry Smith on medicinal chemistry for neglected tropical disease; and Doug Philp on diffusion propagated catalytic waves. Ben was awarded a BBSRC Industrial Studentship with UCB Celltech and now works on unnatural amino acid. Ben is a keen cyclist, likes visiting art galleries, watching snooker and reading Scandinavian crime novels.
