Below is a step by step guide to creating a web page, the powerpoint presentation of the GTS can be found here.

1. Prpearing miages and photos

Find a collection of photos and images you would like on your website and then convert them to the right size for the web page you have in mind (smaller the better, no bigger than 1000 x 1000 pixels or 200kb) .They should be saved as *.jpg for photos and *.gif for buttons).

Paint Shop Pro: a simple to use program (easier than photoshop) that has special wizards to help you optimise for the web. It is also free for 30 days.

Photoshop: the industry standard graphics editing package, you can purchase it from the OUCS shop here:

2. Writing the web page

Word and PowerPoint can save pages you create as html files. Word even has a series of templates you can use, however the html they output can be confusing and so if you want to understand what you have done I suggest you try one of the other programs. If you just want to make a webpage in 5 minutes flat then use Word!

Dreamweaver: The Group has this, find Chris Holland for a copy, if you can't wait a 30 day trial can be found here. This also has lots of templates to let you create pages as easily as a PowerPoint presentation.

3. Uploading the web pages

First you have to register for webspace from OUCS, then download the following program.

CoreFTP: free to use, enter the FTP site details from here and follow the OUCS instructions.

4. Email Chris Holland

Now email me with the website address (in the form http://users.ox.ac.uk/~username, where username is your Herald username) so i can add a link to your name on the ABRG homepage.

5. Other Useful Links

These links will help you with writing web pages, html syntax, and even templates. These were all found from a quick google search, and if you want to find more that's the best place to start.
