Super City are on the up
CITY of Oxford Rowing Club have had their ups and downs
over the years, but they are unquestionably on an up at the
moment, writes Mike Rosewell.
City attended 22 events during 2003 and secured
77 wins, the encouraging part about their success being that
all sections seem to be healthy.
Amy Jackson is the overall club captain, and she
must have been overjoyed by the club's major weekend of
competition in 2003.
They won 13 events at the Wycliffe Head, beating
the course record in 10 of them, and also bagged a veteran win
at the Wallingford Head and a junior win at the Walton Head.
The City's women's Squad have been particularly
impressive this year.
They attended, among other events, Ghent
International Regatta, from where they returned with a bronze
medal, and the Women's Henley Regatta, where they were again
finalists.
The men also went to Zaragoza, in Spain, in
October to compete in an invitation event against Natacion
Helios, the local club.
City now host three major events in the national
rowing calendar - the City Bumps, in April, the Isis Sculls,
in September, and the Oxford City Royal Regatta in August,
which was extended to a two-day event this year with great
success.
