2000 Regatta Preview The Oxford City Royal Regatta (affiliated
to the Amateur Rowing Association) is held every year on the third
Saturday in August, organized by the City of
Oxford Rowing Club. The Regatta
Trophies date back to 1841. This year 260 entries were received
(despite the postal strike), of which 244 were accommodated in 55 events.
(42 crews were eights). Roughly 600 competitors will take part, ranging in
age from 10 to 60 years old. See draw
for details. There will be 206 races at 2.8 minute
intervals throughout the day without break starting at 9.00 am and
finishing at 6.40 pm. See timetable
for details. The course is 1000 m downstream on the
Isis, starting just below Folly Bridge and finishing at Longbridges (near
Hinksey Weir). Spectators are welcome to watch the racing from the
towpath. See course
map for details. A large number of entries were received
from local clubs, including City of Oxford (33 crews), Marlow (26 crews),
Wallingford (25 crews), Reading (21 crews) and Falcon (10 crews). The highlights of the day will include:
The Lord Mayor of Oxford will be in attendance at Longbridges, which is on the towpath side of the Isis, between 4.30 pm and 5.30 pm to present prizes to the winning crews. See also:
