Jim T, Robert, Phillip and John went by train to Ribblehead, arriving at 12.05. We called at the Railway Inn and checked the weather stone, then our Walks from the Settle Carlisle Railway leaflet. We followed the railway to Bleamoor Sidings, then turned SW past Winterscales Farm, Ivescar, Broadrake, Bruntscar and Ellerbeck having lunch along the way, then SE to Chapel-le_Dale to find the the Hill Inn was not open! Incidentally, the Hill Inn now appears to call itself the Old Hill Inn.

We therefore didn't stop but walked NE along the B6255 for nearly a mile until we reached the track off to the right across Sleights Pasture to Cold Park and Salt Lake Cottages on the B6479 which we followed back to Ribblehead, arriving at 4.15 to find the Railway Inn still open and welcoming.

We walked 8½ miles and climbed 500 feet. It was warm with a light breeze and hazy. There was high cloud and no direct sun.
