Weather: Strong wind and rain (storm Eunice)

Background. A temporary road has been made to allow access for contractors demolishing the last few electricity pylons before the cable goes in to the old Woodhead tunnel and so a walk starting at Dunford Bridge gave us a chance to see these works and walk along the temporary road (about one mile).

After leaving a car at Penistone we drove to Dunford Bridge and started walking at 10.10 in a brief dry spell before the rain returned. We walked along the temporary road until it rejoined the main trail. We then followed this to Hazelhead, then Bullace and the site of the old colliery. We had a brief standing lunch under Eckland Bridge where the trail crosses the Woodhead road at 12.10 and then continued into Penistone, arriving at 1.40pm just as the already strong wind was getting even stronger and driving the rain. After refreshments in Penistone we drove back to Dunford Bridge to get the other car and found that it was now sleeting and snowing!

Despite the rain and wind the walk was enjoyable largely due to the wind and rain being at our backs all the way! We walked 6 miles.
