Description: The Historical Thesaurus of English will include almost the entire recorded vocabulary of English spanning Old English to the modern period. Words are to be arranged according to meaning as opposed to alphabetically. Unlike other thesauri, it will include obsolete words and obsolete meanings for current words, as well as comprehensively treating current English language. The Thesaurus will have a completely new system of classification based upon techniques developed in modern linguistics, and an alphabetical index for case of reference. Each section will contain lists of words arranged in chronological order, in a hierarchy allowing up to twelve places.
