Scotland

Edinburgh Castle

Fall 1999

This castle is built on top of an extinct volcano so the cliff sides are very dramatic black rock. It towers over the city and you can see it best at night when it's all lit up. We toured it and contains a dozen stone buildings that make up the castle and its staff housing, military, etc. Lots of armor, a charming chapel and a view of the city. Edinburgh was the capital of Scotland before English rule. The architecture of the city is very gothic and surreal.
