York

Summer 1998

The city of York was the original capitol of England and our city of New York was named after it! It has a well preserved midevil city center and a wall that completely surrounds it. It is about 2 yards thick and takes an hour to walk all the way around it. It provides great views of the city and the bishops gardens! The Minister cathedral maintains that it has the oldest stainglass in Europe. It is a really beautiful, graceful church with Gothic architecture that is similar to Notre Dame in Paris. It isn't dark though, it has many windows at the top to let in the light, the walls are white instead of gray stone and when we were resting for awhile the children's choir started to practice making our visit enchanting.

Castle Howard

This incredible is out in the countryside near the city of York. It is owned by the Howard family. Many old places like this one are too expensive for the owners to maintain and so they open them to the public. It costs about $5-10
