CRICKET. On Monday last a match of cricket was
played between the Cassington and Cumnor clubs, in a meadow belonging to
Mr C Tubb, of Farmoor, who kindly lent it for that purpose; the Cumnor
side first going to the wickets, stood their ground well for two hours and
a half, and during that time, owing to the splendid hitting of Mr J
Lainbourne, MrC Tubb and Mr M Tubb, the others doing their best, obtained
120 runs. The Cassington gentlemen were not so successful, although they tried well; the Rev. J Bristow played with great spirit, but Cumnor were too much for them as they could only obtain 28 runs in their first innings and 50 in their second innings, making 78, Cumnor thus beating |
them in one innings, with 42 runs to
spare. The party then assembled at the Red Lion, where a capital dinner
was provided for them by the landlord, Mr R Godfrey, and a pleasant
