Current work
focusses on the broad question ‘What politics ought to be’. My current enquiry builds on the
discussion of normative models and theories of politics in Problems of
Communitarian Politics 1999.
Recent conference, seminar papers and lectures include the titles: ‘What
kind of leader can a democratic woman be?’; ‘What can politics be today?’; ‘What is politics?’. The theme of these papers is that democratic polities and democratic
theory needs to reclaim, rather than seek to eclipse, the concept and the
values of ‘politics’
