Teaching Experience

I am passionate about teaching and currently teach full-time at the University of Oxford, Department of Engineering Science. I spend most of my time teaching undergraduate engineers how to program, but have 10 years of teaching experience in a range of contexts. These are summarised below.

Teaching mathematics and programming to engineering students

  • Tutoring core mathematics topics as well as numerical analysis to first and second years
  • Laboratory teaching, with a focus on project-based learning, to first through third years in topics focused around scientific computing: programming, dynamics and image analysis
  • Supporting and promoting extra-curricular activities, such as the MathWorks Minidrone Competition (my students won Silver in 2021)

Teaching Scientific Computing to postgraduates

  • Workshop classes on using MATLAB as a tool for research
  • Workshops on using Simulink and App Designer for research
  • I am a trained Software Carpentry instructor

Teacher Training

  • Mentoring my teaching assistants to gain Associate Fellow status through advanceHE
  • Training educators to use the MATLAB Grader tool, from basic to advanced use
  • Teaching computational thinking to primary school teachers who need help gaining confidence to teach the Key Stage 1-3 Computer Science curriculum

Sports Coaching

I was involved with roller derby, a grassroots sport for 8 years. As well as honing my skating skills, I held many committee positions including recruitment, fundraising, merchandise sales and marketing. I also held the position of league representative in the nationwide UK Roller Derby Association. I spent over a year as Head Coach and hold a Level 2 certificate in coaching skating from the British Roller Sports Federation.
