For those not familiar with biomaterials research see My Introduction to Biomaterials page for a brief overiview and for an explanation of the relevant terminology
For the last 3 years I have been working in the Biomaterials (Now "Polymers and Biomaterials")
research group in the Department of Materials at the University of Oxford. The group researches
(amongst other things) bone related biomaterials - more in-depth information is on the
groups home page.
I am focussing on Hydroxyapatite coated materials and the response of human osteoblast cells to
the materials and coatings. We coat the hydroxyapatite onto materials using a low temperature
electrophoretic technique, this technique allows tight control over the phases deposited, and is a
flexible technique allowing the deposition of macroassemblies - for more information see my
Part II project on macroassemblies. I am currently studying the response of
human osteoblast cells to a variety of material - for more information on this see my current
DPhil project.
The in vitro response of Human Osteoblast Cells to bioamterials
A less vague description of what I am currently working on will appear here soon!!
Calcium Phosphate Macroassemblies as a Topographically Controlled Coating
