Medieval French at Oxford
Undergraduate students can study a variety of topics in Medieval French
literature:
Paper VI: French Literature to 1530 (period
paper)
Paper IX: Medieval Prescribed Texts
(Chanson de Roland – Béroul's Tristan
and Iseut – Villon's Testament)
Paper XII: “Medieval Intersectional Identities”
Paper XIV: Dissertation
If you're interested in researching medieval French literature for a
Paper XIV, do get in touch with Professor Daron Burrows (St Peter’s
College), Professor Sophie Marnette (Balliol College) or Professor
Helen Swift (St Hilda’s College), ideally as soon as Trinity Term of your
second year in Oxford, so that you've chance, through discussion, to identify
your topic and set up a reading list for your Year Abroad (or long vacation, if
your Year Abroad is in your second year). If you're doing a Joint School,
remember that medieval French can of course alternatively form part of a
Bridge/Extended Essay for HML/EMEL or an EML Dissertation. There are plenty of
