1996 and all that

O.U.O.C. Hilary Term Newsletter No.1

1st Week Hilary Term

Presidential Address

Welcome to 1996, I hope you had a good hols. I hope everybody has started running off those extra calories you put on at Christmas cos we've got a pretty hectic schedule this term which extends into the Easter hols with the all important Varsity Match in France. I hope you can all make it, I need to know fairly soon so I can work out how we are going to get there. It will obviously be cheaper with more people. I am banking on an Oxbridge total (including ex-members) of 50 which leaves us with the choice of a coach or ideally three minibuses.

For those competing for places in the men's & women's first team, the selection match will be on the 18th Feb. in-conjunction with the Town vs. Gown competition. Before that though, we have a needle match in the Churchill cup vs. Sheffield (& Manchester). I hope we can get our strongest teams out for both of these.

To prepare you for battle we have a training weekend on the 27/28th of Feb. where you can fine tune (or learn from scratch!) those navigational skills essential for saving seconds, minutes (or hours in Tony's case) of your run.

I hope a few more will attempt to get fit this term with the aid of Dave's training runs. Anyone wishing to come, whatever your speed, arrange with Dave when it is best for you to run. At the moment the runs are everyday-ish usually at 5.30 but we will confirm this at club lunch.

The big social event of the term is the annual dinner which could be in Lincoln. The likely date is Thurs. or Fri. of Sixth week. Keep those dates free. There is also the AGM, but this could well take place at the beginning of next term due to a certain classicist's mod's......ha ha unlucky Jerry!...any one interested in running the club next year, get your nominations in early!

We will also have other socials most weeks but you'll have to come to club lunch or keep an eye on e-mail for when these are happening.

Our weekly meeting will as usual be on Wednesday's from 1-2pm in the Sir Christopher Cox Room, New College where you can find out what is happening and sign down for events. Anyone who wants to take over my job as food buyer is welcome to volunteer...I can't do it this term so you'll have to go without!

Good luck and happy O-ing

Jon
