An over-eager start by Baden sent the eights back to line up again, and on the second go the visiting crew from Holland took the lead, although Baden again started slickly. The Dutch boys increased their lead steadily, watching a battle royal developing between the local Swiss crews for second place. With the Luzerner youngsters closest to the spectators, the crowd were on their feet for a glorious sprint finish which saw Ruess hold on to second place ahead of the composite and then Baden and Grasshopper. Superb racing.
