Friday 17th October 2008: "Bad Science"

Author, newspaper columnist, NHS doctor and broadcaster, Ben Goldacre is a crusader. His targets are the publicisers of incompetent, biased, false and inaccurate science everywhere, and he does not lack prey. Since 2003 he has written a weekly column on the subject of 'bad science' in the Saturday edition of the Guardian newspaper, and now he has a book out on the same subject.

Goldacre began his medical career as a student at Oxford University, where he also edited the student magazine Isis. He now works for the NHS in London, runs his own website with regular blogs, and dodges threats from those he has lambasted in the national press.

We are running a special large-scale event for his appearance at the Cafe Scientifique: Friday 17th October in the Martin Wood Lecture Theatre, Parks Road, OX1 3PU.

Tickets are a nominal £1 per person, available from Blackwells Main Bookshop, Customer Services, tel 01865-333623 or second floor in the main shop. No admission without a ticket.

Start time 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm. All welcome, wheelchair access.

Come along and join us. No scientific background required.

You can download this as a flyer or a simpler A4 poster, for publicity around your work or school. We will post here if tickets sell out: there will be returns allowed on the door.

Visit Goldacre's own website for more on bad science, his writings and broadcastings, his blog, and information about the book.
