Professor Andrew Hamilton
Tuesday 9th November 2010: Recognition in the Molecular World: Pathways to the Treatment of Cancer
In nature the highly selective recognition of molecular targets by other biomolecules is at the heart of many biological processes. Chemists have long sought to mimic these recognition mechanisms not only as a way of understanding their fundamental basis but also as a route to controlling damaged protein function in disease.
Professor Hamilton is the current Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, and still runs a chemistry research group despite his busy schedule. In this Cafe he will describe some early approaches to artificial molecular recognition and will show how the core principles can be extended to the discovery of new therapeutic treatments.
Come along and join us at 7pm in Blackwells Main Bookshop, Broad Street, Oxford.
