Examples of the permitted and prohibited substances (based upon theInternational Olympic Committee Medical Code 1994).

Asthma
Allowed - salbutamol inhaler, terbutaline inhaler
Banned - products containing sympathomimetics (eg ephedrine, fenoterol, isoprenaline)
Cough
Allowed - all antibiotics, steam and menthol inhalers, cough mixtures containing antihistamines, pholcodine, guaiphenesin, dextromethorphan
Banned - products containing sympathomimetics (eg ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine)
Diarrhoea
Allowed - diphenoxylate, loperamide, products containing electrolytes (eg Dioralyte, Rehidrat)
Banned - products containing opiods (eg, morphine)
Hay Fever
Allowed - antihistamines, nasal sprays containing a corticosteroid or xylometazoline, eyedrops containing sodium cromoglycate
Banned - products containing ephedrine, psuedoephedrine [ I assume this is a misspelling of psEUdoephedrine - AD ]
Pain
Allowed - aspirin, codeine, dihydrocodeine, ibuprofen, paracetamol, all non-steroid anti-inflammatories
Banned - products containing opiods (eg dextropropoxyphene) or caffeine
Vomiting
Allowed - domperidone, metoclopramide
