Oxford Adaptive Rowing press release 1 1998

The Rowing Service

OXFORD ADAPTIVE ROWING (O.A.R.)

Oxford Adaptive Rowing is a charity set up following motions by the ARA to promote rowing for the disabled in Great Britain. OAR is the 'first Adaptive Rowing Club' affiliated to the ARA and is run in just the same way as all other boat clubs. We are an Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University affiliated society that relys on the support of rowing students to maintain this exciting national first.

Our objects clause states that we are here to:

'....promote the use of rowing as an integrative, therapeutic, recreational and competitive sport....'

This means that we are strongly working to raise its awareness as a potential Paralympic sport by creating adaptive races and races with the able-bodied at ARA regattas and providing our own Adaptive National Championships.

This e-mail is to raise awareness of this vital charity. At the moment O.U. and O.B.U. students are running this charity in close connection with the ARA. We have raised the profile of this sport to the extent that in the last two months we have gained support and sponsorship from Henley Royal Regatta Stewards Charitable Trust, Andersen Consulting, the ARA, FISA and many more prestigious groups.

We still need your help.........
