Peterborough Head 1995
The weather was gratifyingly normal considering what had gonebefore. The river was very high with the normal banks floodedand providing entertainment for those crews trying to finda tight line only to find themselves digging up dirt. Theoriginal course was 5k, but a strong stream and a slightheadwind must have caused the organisers to slightly cutthis, because we did not row 5000 metres! The race itself, well, I didn't see much of it from my boat,(Number 1!), we managed to hold off Bedford thanks to theirlate arrival on the start. The Lea won it comfortably, althoughonly passing the IC novices on their way to victory. Granta(Cambridge Univ. Lightweights) were a comfortable second, securing the senior 3 pennant. It must have been a ding-dongbattle between crews eight and twelve, as they all finished in the top 7, including, ominously, two Eton crews and onefrom Abingdon. With Royal Shrewsbury in 10th, this was a goodday for the schoolboys. Derby's veteran E crew's handicappingput them into an excellent 9th place (there was a lot of GBkit in evidence around their trailer!). Veteran E means 55 orover ..... does anyone have the rules regarding the handicapsused?
