CURRENT RESEARCH
ACTIVITIES
I have several sole-authored
projects in progress currently (spring 2012): a commentary on Horace Odes 2 for the Cambridge Greek and Latin
Classics (green and yellow) series; another volume on Apuleius, collecting
previously published papers on literary texture in the Metamorphoses, for OUP; a
new edition of the Greece and Rome New
Survey on Horace for CUP, and a monograph on the reception of Horace in the
Victorian period for Duckworth. Collaborative work includes editing or co-editing
two conference volumes on the reception of the ancient novels, one on the
reception of Sappho at Rome, one on characterisation in Apuleius’ Metamorphoses, one on expurgation in
classical scholarship, one on the classical radio plays of Louis MacNeice, one
on the ‘democratic turn’ in recent reception of the classics, and membership of
the Groningen Commentaries on Apuleius team working on a joint commentary on Met.11 (the Isis-book). I have also
agreed to edit the Silvae of the
great Scottish neo-Latin poet George Buchanan (1506-1582) for an international
Buchanan edition directed by Philip Ford. Various conference papers and
chapters are also in progress, on Horace, Flavian poetry, and Apuleius.
