Oxford ZooOxford Zoo - Getting Ready for Spring

Nesting Swan It's February in Oxford, and spring has sprung. All over the city people are coming out and enjoying themselves. Trees are flowering, and everything seems alive. Nowhere is this more true than at the Zoo. All of our animals are out and about - some of them having just come out of hibernation, or returned from Southern climes - and getting on with their business. Many of our animals have had, or are waiting to have, their babies! Our lions have had their cubs, and the swans are nesting in the Nature Reserve.

Meanwhile, Zoo staff are also busy getting ready for the better weather. The bird enclosures are being opened up and the bears' hibernation quarters are being renovated for this year's season. The bears themselves, and the other hibernating animals, are all back in the public areas of the Zoo for all to come and visit. As you might imagine, hungry bears are not the easiest or most even-tempered creatures to move, and this project has proved quite a challenge for their keepers! Staff in other sections have also been busy; preparations are being made to improve visitor facilities before the summer season. The Oasis Restaurant is being redecorated, and there are many new dishes on the menu. Visitors to the Zoo should be able to find their way around more easily, as sign-posting has been improved.
