Amanda L R Thomas

I work at the Oxford English Dictionary. In summer 2021 I completed a DPhil in Linguistics at the University of Oxford, as a member of Trinity College and the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics. My DPhil thesis is on the syntax and morphology of Portuguese, with a focus on diachronic data and the formal theories of Lexical-Functional Grammar (LFG) and Paradigm Function Morphology (PFM).

For a quick introduction to some of my research, you can download a PDF handout of my LFG20 poster which brings together LFG and PFM to analyse past participles in Portuguese. You could also see my poster on 'Grammatical features in the history of pronouns' , presented at LFG19, or the handout for my talk on 'The development of double past participle forms in Portuguese' at ICHL24. Finally, I have a poster based on my Master's thesis on double past participle forms in the Romance languages.

In 2021-22 I taught on Oxford's two undergraduate courses in Portuguese Linguistics (IV and V). I have previously taught lectures, classes and tutorials on various subjects in Linguistics and in Portuguese.

I am always keen to hear from linguists working in similar areas, or from students interested in Portuguese linguistics. Feel free to contact me.
