OUSFG Trinity Termcard 2017

Sunday Library Meetings would usually be held from 8pm until late (normally around midnight) in the OUSFG library. These evenings are an opportunity to socialise, and chat about life, the universe and everything, whilst also perusing and borrowing from OUSFG's library of around 600 books. Unfortunately, this term is proving tricky to organise library meetings every Sunday, but we will endeavour to hold one or two Sunday meetings with the actual books.

Wednesday discussion and video meetings are held at 8pm in one of the Pembroke College (map) or Somerville College (map) meeting rooms. See below for details.

Termcard
26 Apr  Wednesday 1st Week Pembroke Discussion AI discussion led by Will. Is true Artificial Intelligence possible or desirable? Do we risk being replaced/eliminated? (Maybe that's a good thing.) What precautions should we be taking? This is a classic theme of SF. Some examples that come to mind that maybe we can discuss are I, Robot, The Terminator, Person of Interest, and Humans,
3 May  Wednesday 2nd Week Somerville Video A stand-alone episode from Black Mirror and, to cheer us up afterwards, the first episode of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (US series).
10 May  Wednesday 3rd Week Pembroke Discussion Translation of SF and Fantasy discussion led by Lyuba. Bilbo Who? Reading SF in translation and trying to make sense of the original. This meeting will be in Pembroke's Hester Room (18 on map).
17 May  Wednesday 4th Week Somerville Discussion Remembrance of futures past discussion led by Will. How has SF of different times viewed the future? This meeting will be in Somerville's New Powell Room (top right on map).
25 May  Thursday 5th Week Worcester Quiz Oxford Geek Quiz — battle of wits and knowledge against Docsoc, Tolksoc, HPsoc et al. Bring your own round of questions if you like (don't tell anyone the answers).
7pm, Nazrin Shah auditorium in Worcester College (map; Details from WhoSoc).
31 May  Wednesday 6th Week Somerville Discussion Favourite obscure book. Bring your favourite book/eBook that isn't so well known (probably safe, as long as it isn't Discworld). We'd like to hear a bit more about it than we usually have time for at Desert Planet Books, and maybe read a little bit according to your recommendation.
7 Jun  Wednesday 7th Week Pembroke Silly games I suppose serious games are also allowed. Maybe.

We will also have a punt party later in the term (perhaps Saturday 6th Week, 3 June).
