See below for details, and sign up for the ousfg-announce mailing list to receive a reminder and details for each meeting.

Please remember that Sunday is the first day of the Oxford Week, so do check the dates below if you are unsure.

Termcard
14 Jan  Sunday 1st Week Balliol Discussion In-depth Desert Planet Books
21 Jan  Sunday 2nd Week Balliol Discussion Collaborative storytelling discussion, Tentacular Vikings takes a theme and runs with it as we all work together to write (or at least plan) a story. Last term, the first sign is impenetrable silence, each time a planet disappears. Some previous stories have involved a miners' strike on the surface of the sun, Boom Sticks, the St Giles' Fair's role in keeping freshers from disappearing into parallel dimensions, and finally an explanation for why we keep crashing on that dratted desert planet. Oh yes, and tentacular Vikings.
28 Jan  Sunday 3rd Week Balliol Workshop Writing Workshop
3 Feb  Saturday 2pm 3rd Week Balliol Library Bookstore crawl. This Saturday we are going to explore the many hidden (and cheap!) bookstores in Oxford and their SFF collections. This might be the time to find new hidden spots, expand your book collection and if you're feeling generous — donate your findings into the OUSFG library. And speaking of the Library, this is exactly the place we will embark afterwards, to browse our vast collection (which you can also see here) — and there will be biscuits! Feel free to join for any part of our crawl.
We will start with the Oxfam bookshop on Turl Street at 2pm. To catch up with us later, please contact Paulina on Discord.
11 Feb  Sunday 5th Week Balliol Discussion Non-mainstream mythologies/cultures and their influences on SFF
15 Feb  Thursday 5th Week Balliol Quiz OUSFG will be taking part in the Oxford Geek Quiz. Please join us and help us compete for the crown of 'the one wot won that year'! Details TBA on the WhoSoc termcard.
18 Feb  Sunday 6th Week Balliol Discussion Philosophy: Society/Morality in SFF
25 Feb  Sunday 7th Week Balliol Speaker The Uses and Abuses of Archetypes. From the witch in the woods to the paladin in the party, speculative fiction has always been built out of recognizable characters. Historical fantasy author Kate Heartfield draws on examples from old stories and new to show how fiction can shape — or shake up — ideas about how people ought to live.
3 Mar  Sunday 8th Week Balliol AGM & Discussion General Meeting + Werewolf

We also plan a viewing party to see Dune Part 2, sometime 1–8 March.

Next term, A. Y. Chao will be coming to speak to us. She is the #1 Sunday Times bestselling author of Shanghai Immortal, the first in a trilogy following charmingly profane half-fox spirit, half vampire Lady Jing.
