Theoretical Philosophy Work in Progress (TWiP) Seminar

Time: TBC
Location: Lecture Room, Radcliffe Humanities
Convenor: Martin Pickup
This page:

This seminar, open to faculty and graduate students, provides a forum for faculty members (at Oxford or visiting) to discuss their current work in progress in ‘theoretical’ philosophy, broadly construed. The seminar aims to facilitate contact and cooperation within the large group of philosophers in Oxford working in these areas, and to familiarise graduate students with the range of work being done in the faculty. This term’s schedule is immediately below; you can also find details of previous terms.

Work to be discussed is usually linked from this site in advance (typically a week before the seminar). Each seminar begins with a short presentation of the main ideas of the work under discussion by its author. While the seminar works best if many attendees have read the paper in advance, that is not a requirement of attendance. Anyone with an interest in the topic of the paper under discussion is encouraged to attend even if they haven’t managed to read the paper. Discussion is fairly informal, and as befits a work in progress seminar, the focus is on constructive and useful feedback.

These papers are drafts; please do not cite or circulate more widely without permission. As the seminar takes place around lunchtime, feel free to bring a sandwich or some other food! If you do not have access to weblearn, email me on for a copy of the paper.
