Supervision Interests
My work focuses on liberal democracies, with a particular emphasis on European politics.
I have a long-standing research interest in liberal democracy and its
adversaries, especially the legal and political dimensions of
democratic self-defence, democratic backsliding and resilience,
comparative democratization, illiberalism, extremism, and populism. My
work also engages with party politics and the comparative analysis of
states and political regimes.
The analysis of institutions and institutional development, together
with a comparative-historical approach to the study of politics, are
central to my research. I am interested in supervising dissertations
that adopt a pragmatic and pluralistic use of methods to address
substantively important political problems.
