Robin Carter

Robin obtained his DPhil in Materials Science from the University of Oxford in 2004. He was then selected as Toshiba Fellow for 2005 and worked at Toshiba Labs, Japan, on nano-materials for next generation storage media. Some of this work has been patented.

After a second post-doc in South Africa, Robin moved back to the UK to work for the Innovation Consultancy, IXC. Here he facilitated technology transfer for client companies through the Open Innovation process.

Finally, after deciding that instead of consulting on projects he really wanted to get stuck into one himself, he joined Prof. Vollrath's Silk Group and now acts as the technology transfer and translation point-man for the group. He researches new applications and markets for silk, silk-based products and services, develops business plans and builds links with research labs, SMEs and multinationals across Europe.
