Coxing
Anyone steering a Club boat should be thoroughly familiar
with the CORC safety rules and the ARA Water
Safety Code. It is advisable also to read the
OURCs Rules of the River to which,
in theory, all College crews adhere.
Those new to rowing will find a useful introduction to
coxing in the OURCs Coxing Handbook
(basic), which also contains specific information about steering the
Isis.
Members wishing to learn more about the basics of coxing
are invited to attend the induction course for Oxford University College coxswains. This
is a thorough grounding in the basics of watermanship in general and coxing on the Isis in
particular. Sessions will be scheduled at the end of the second week of October
("First Week" for those who speak Oxonian).
Rachel Quarrell,
who runs this course, has also suggested that City coxswains register as College
coxswains. This will permit them to row with college crews (you never know how things
might develop!). Registration is only £1 and the cost of two passport photos.
