In this short article I introduce readers to the philosophical puzzle of the Non-Identity Problem in the context of the climate and ecological emergency. Then I set out one of the most interesting recent contributions to the philosophical debate that the non-identity problem has generated, due to Samuel Scheffler. Arguably this belongs on the 'Environmental activism' page, but I've gone to the trouble of creating this page now and I don't have anything else to put on it.
