L57 Practical Steps

Having reviewed a wide range of issues concerned with licensing there are several practical steps that any organisation might take.

IP & Licensing Strategy
The first is to ensure that the firm has an overall IP strategy (L26) with which it can integrate its licensing activity and licensing strategy. This applies to any size firm.

L58 Licensing Organisation
Whilst very small firms may have to rely on the directors or MD being involved in all levels of licensing activity; for any medium sized firm with sufficient licensing activity, thought should be given to the organisational structures the company needs to manage its licensing activity effectively.

L59 Licensing Checklists
In contemplating a licensing agreement there are inevitably a wide range of issues to discuss and it is often useful to have a ready list of such issues to use as a starting point for drafting a memorandum of points that might be discussed.

L60 Licensing Follow Up
After a licence has been concluded and the licence agreement is in operation there are still a number of issues which companies should pay attention to.
