The Fisk organ, The Memorial Church, Harvard University

Organ

I was an organ scholar at Selwyn College, Cambridge between 1995 and 1998, and still play from time to time.

This is a recording of me peforming Placare Christe Servulis, Op. 38 No. 16, by Marcel Dupré, at a concert in Harvard's Memorial Church:

My piano: a Steinway Model O

Piano

Perhaps unusually, I learned the organ without having any piano training, so when not doing maths/physics I'm now trying to teach myself.

My talk at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London

City of London Sinfonia Collaboration

In 2018 I had the enormous privilege of working with the City of London Sinfonia on our Bach and the Cosmos concert series.

We toured the UK across 7 venues, with 3 different programmes featuring music by, or inspired by, Johann Sebastian Bach. As a mathematician and former organ scholar, I've always been fascinated by the connections between mathematics and music, and Bach's music in particular. Each programme featured a talk about these various connections, interspersed with musical excerpts and performances of complete works.

Our next event is 30 June 2022, this time as part of the Spitalfields Music Festival. Music will feature Bach's Goldberg Variations, arranged for string orchestra by Sitkovetsky.
