OUOC Cuppers Competition - Final Details

Sponsored by:

Touchwoods

Date: Sunday 8th Week, 9th June

Venue: Shotover Park

Transport: There will be a minibus that will pick anyone who wants to compete from outside the entrance to the Exam Schools at 10am, 11am, and 12pm. Otherwise, it is easily accessed by bike - Take the right hand fork at the bottom of South Parks and follow that road right to the top of the hill.

Start Times: Starts will be from about 10.15am onwards and the course will close at 1.30pm.

Course: There will only be one course, and this will be suitable for orienteers of all abilities.

Prizes: Prizes have been kindly provided by Touchwoods so there's all the more to come along and run for!

What to bring: If you have a compass and a map bag (see-through plastic wallet) bring it along. We will have available the club compasses and some map bags for those who do not have them, and if anyone has any spares please bring them along. Make sure that you have full leg protection, i.e. trousers, if you want to compete, for safety reasons. A sturdy pair of trainers/boots would be suitable for the terrain.

Scoring: It will be a straight race to determine both the Men's and Women's titles. The team event will be won by the team with the lowest overall time for 3 members. Teams can consist of any combination of men and women, so mixed and same-sexed teams are equally as valid. Women will be given a time compensation of 20% off their overall time. The title for the best novice will also use the same time compensation.

World Cup Football: When the World Cup Schedule was organised by FIFA, they took into account the orienteering Cuppers, and so put on 2 of the least interesting fixtures to clash with us:

Group C - Costa Rica v Turkey 10:00
Group H - Japan v Russia 12:30

What to do now: Make sure that you don't miss this superb event and that your college puts out a team. Forward this e-mail to all your friends (that is if you have any) so they know what the score is. Trust me, any motley crew can win the team event!

Good luck to all competing, and I hope you have a great time.

OUOC President
