Bubble and Squeak
Trinity Term Week 2

6.41pm, Sunday 7th May 2006

Hi All,

Quite a few things I'd like to mention this week. Have fun reading...

WEBSITE: Scott has done an absolutely amazing job of updating the website so that everything is functional and generally useful. Take a look if you're bored with revision.

FCC RESULTS: Joe and Helen have been racing in the Future Champions' Cup Final this weekend. Joe was a mere seven seconds behind the leader in the middle event on Saturday and finished fifth in the classic distance today. Helen was a creditable seventh in the middle and then finished sixth in a closely packed classic, less than four minutes behind the leaders in her category. Congratulations to both!

CUPPERS: This is on Saturday in the University Parks. Bring lots and lots of friends and convince them that orienteering in a technically simple area will be fun. See here for details.

TVOC SUMMER SERIES - THIS WEDNESDAY: The series of midweek sprint races organised by the local club starts this week with an event at Shotover on Wednesday. We'll be cycling up together, leaving Bottoms Up (the off-licence just over Magdalen Bridge) at 6:30pm. This series is simple, fun, and caters for beginners to elites. Entry is £1 and further details are available here.

SUMMER TOUR - CZECH REPUBLIC: Those going on the Summer Tour are advised to buy 'plane tickets as soon as possible. See the details in Chris M's email, but don't bother getting the EasyJet insurance option. These low fares airlines have to make their money somewhere...

OUTREACH: This is a really valuable scheme where we go to local schools and teach kids to orienteer. It's fun, develops character, looks good on your CV and gives the club money. If you can help for an hour and a half on a Wednesday afternoon, contact Chris Millard.

JOINT SOCIAL - CAMBRIDGE: It's confirmed. We'll be going back to the marshes occupied by students with webbed feet after the Rowney Warren Event on Sunday of Fifth Week.

PURPLE THISTLE: As I mentioned at the AGM, I'd like to take an OUOC contingent to the Purple Thistle, which is an event organised by Edinburgh Alumni and will be at Glen Affric, near Inverness over the bank holiday weekend. Let me know if you'd be potentially interested in going. There is no requirement for you to commit to going at this point!

CAMBRIDGE TRAINING TOUR: Each year Cambridge go to the Lakes for a week training at the end of Michaelmas. We'll be joining them and making it an official OUOC fixture so put the dates in your diary now! We'll be leaving Sunday 3 December and finishing Thursday 7 December.

ANNUAL DINNER: Yes, it's finally upon us. The celebration for the past year of OUOC fun is tomorrow and starts with the Annual Photo in Trinity College. The champagne reception starts at 6:30 and we'll have the photo immediately rather than keep the photographer waiting. If people want to meet beforehand rather than find their own way to Trinity's Fellow's Garden, we'll meet at the lodge at 6:26pm.

Phew! There was a lot to say there. See some of you in the pub tonight. And at the Dinner tomorrow. Hope you're all looking forward to it. I am. :-)

OUOC President
