OUSFG Library FAQs
Users' FAQ
- How do I add I borrow books from the library?
- Email or otherwise contact a librarian currently keeping the book (their name and email address is showed in
Availability column). Alternatively, email The OUSFG Librarian.
- The book is shown as borrowed. What can I do?
- The Availability column is showing when a borrowed book is due to be returned. If it's past that date, please
poke a librarian to investigate the issue!
- Do I have to be a member to borrow books?
- Technically yes, but the membership is freely obtainable by filling in this simple
form
- Some information about the books is wrong!
- Even the totally-not-artificial-intelligence who wrote most of the book table is fallible. Comment / contact
someone from the committee (preferably the librarian) / fill in feedback
form
and the mistake shall be fixed
- There is an issue / the library is missing something / I could do this better....
- Any suggestions welcome on this
form
Librarians' FAQ
- I want to add a box to a library, how to?
-
If adding a box, add box number and current location (i.e. your name and your email) to the "Boxes" sheet.
Please label the box with the number so any future librarians know what box do your efer to! For technical
reasons, put the entry to the first empty row in the table, and use the next available integer.
Then, add books to "[Raw] Book List" sheet, filling in the informations and the columns. Only fill in columns up
to "Box", the "Location" column can infere te location authomatically based on the data on boxes &
availability.
If you are adding many books, this librarian's method of choice is taking photos, get text-from-image and ask
chatgpt to fill in the rest (trully we live in a sci-fi era...)
One small thing at the end - sort the books by author when you're done adding books, so the list in the published
Library list stays neat and sorted
- Someone wants to borrow a book I have in my part of the library, what to do?
-
Deliver it to them (sending into a pigeonhole might work...), and for technicalities, set the Available column
value for the book to 0, and set Date of Return and Borrowed by columns to the respective quantities. If
conditional formatting isn't broken, the Date of Return cell will be shinning yellow/red if the book is overdue.
- Sometimes books are listed twice (or thrice).
-
In that case, it is noted in Note columns, and you should set this
for each of the book's occurence separately.
- Someone is returning a book into my part of the library, what to do?
-
Simply change cell for the Available columns for the book entry to 1, an delete the row's values in Date of
Return and Borrowed By columns. The Location's columns will change automatically. If the book is listed multiple
times, do so for each occurence.
- Can I change a wrong info?
- Go ahead!
- Box moved location. What now?
- Change the Location info in the "Boxes" sheet, and it will automatically change in the sheets with books.
