Oxford ZooOstriches

Oxford Zoo has been building up its ostrich population, and we are participating in the international breeding programme, which has already been able to release some ostriches back into their natural habitat in Negev, Israel.

We are particularly lucky to have a Ludvig Ostrichus on loan to us from Newbury Zoo, and we hope to find him a breeding partner soon.

This ostrich is noted for his vanity, and we have to agree that he is far too handsome to bury his head in the sand! Note the black feathers on the neck of this male ostrich - females and juveniles are a dark brown.
