How good is the instruction ?

Good instruction is essential to learning any martial art. In addition to dan gradings our local instructors (James and Alan) have qualified as martial arts coaches with MADEC.

Alan has also been trained in fitness and strength coaching techniques by BAWLA, the EFBB and the YMCA, and has been teaching SulKiDo since 1989. James assumed the role of lead Oxford instructor in 2004, and has been teaching SulKiDo since 1998.

Tuition is based on full use of modern training methods and stresses understanding the biomechanics of techniques rather than purely rote learning. A mixture of class-based and individual tuition is given as appropriate to the particular techniques being taught. Members are encouraged to think and ask questions - it's impossible to teach techniques for all possible scenarios, and only by taking an active part in learning will the ability to improvise be developed (it's also a lot more fun!)
