Professor Martin R. Castell Fax. +44 - 1865 - 273 783 I am a Professor of Materials in the Department of Materials and a Fellow of Linacre College at the University of Oxford. I run a research group investigating the atomic scale structure and properties of surfaces and nanostructures. Our main instruments are two ultra high vacuum scanning tunnelling microscopes that can image surfaces at atomic resolution. By characterising and processing surfaces on the nanoscale we aim to create new materials for applications in catalysis, gas sensing, microelectronics, and diverse areas of nanotechnology. Some of our recent work is described on the Group Website. I am a Member of the Institute of Physics (IoP) and hold Chartered Physicist (CPhys.) status. I serve on the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IoM3) Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Committee. I lecture the Materials Science undergraduate courses Defects in Crystals (1st year), Surfaces and Interfaces (2nd year), and help to run the Characterisation Module (3rd year). I also give a postgraduate course Microscopy and Analysis of Surfaces. I mainly tutor for St. Edmund Hall. |
