The Oxford Doctor Who Society – Honorary Members
- Tom Baker
- The Fourth Doctor, Tom is still the longest serving actor in the role and spoke at the previous incarnation of WhoSoc in 1975! He became an honorary member of our society in 1992.
- Peter Davison
- The Fifth Doctor, Peter became the youngest actor to have played the role at the time and later went on to write and direct the fantastic The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot in 2013. He became an honorary member in 2021 after meeting members of the society at Bedford Who Charity Con 6!
- Colin Baker
- The Sixth Doctor, Colin has played the role on screen, stage and audio, while also being the only Doctor to have written a comic - The Age of Chaos. He became an honorary member in 2018 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 4!
- Sylvester McCoy
- The Seventh Doctor, Sylvester picked up the mantle in 1987 and hasn’t stopped since, playing the character on TV, on film, and more recently audio for all that time. (Plus, he was in The Hobbit, you know!) He became an honorary member in 2019 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 5!
- Paul McGann
- The Eighth Doctor, Paul starred in Doctor Who (the 1996 TV Movie), Night of the Doctor, and literally hundreds of Big Finish audios. He became an honorary member in 2023 when we met him at Blackwell's of Oxford, after he hosted a talk with Professor Frank McDonough to discuss his latest history book, 'The Weimar Years'.
- Jo Martin
- Jo Martin shocked the world when she made her debut as Ruth Clayton, otherwise known as The Doctor, in Fugitive of the Judoon! She became an honorary member in 2022 after meeting members of our society at Bedford Who Charity Con 7!
- Katy Manning
- Probably best known for playing Jo Grant, companion of the Third Doctor, Katy has also taken on the mantle of the Time Lords herself, playing Iris Wildthyme in audios for Big Finish. She became an honorary member in 2018 after being met by members at the Valiant Convention!
- Sarah Sutton
- Having played Nyssa, companion of the Fourth and Fifth Doctors on screen, Sarah has since enjoyed reprising the role for Big Finish since the turn of the millennium. She became an honorary member in 2018 after being met by members at the Utopia Convention!
- Janet Fielding
- As Tegan, Janet was companion of the Fourth Doctor (for one story!) and the Fifth Doctor for many more, later reprising the role for Big Finish and in The Power of the Doctor. She became an honorary member in 2019 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 5!
- Sophie Aldred
- Back in the dark days known as the 1990s, Sophie, who brought everyone’s favourite Blue Peter badge-wearing, Dalek-smashing companion to life, visited our society multiple times. She became an honorary member after attending a very early meeting of the society in Hilary 1991 as a guest!
- Louise Jameson
- Playing Leela, Louise faced off against Rutans, deadly robots and even tax men during her time in the TARDIS, later reprising the role for Big Finish. She became an honorary member in 2019 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 5!
- Michael Jayston
- Michael played the mysterious Valeyard during The Trial of a Timelord and later reprised the role for Big Finish. He became an honorary member in 2019 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 5!
- Carole Ann Ford
- All the way back in 1963, Carole was part of the original TARDIS crew, playing Susan Foreman, and has reprised the role a number of times. She became an honorary member in 2019 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 5!
- Paul Marc Davis
- Paul played the Futurekind Chieftan in Utopia, The Trickster in The Sarah Jane Adventures, a Cowled Figure in Torchwood's Exit Wounds, and Corakinus in Class - making him the only actor to appear in Doctor Who and all three of its TV spin-offs. He became an honorary member in 2021 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 6!
- David Hankinson
- As a Dalek operator, David helped bring everyone's favourite exterminating nasties to life during Series One through Four. He became an honorary member in 2021 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 6!
- Peter Roy
- Throughout his long and illustrious career, Peter has played minor roles in countless films, television programmes, and episodes of Doctor Who, such as one of the policemen in Logopolis. He became an honorary member in 2021 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 6!
- Roger Murray-Leach
- Roger worked as a set designer during the Hinchcliffe era, which included The Ark in Space, The Sontaran Experiment and The Deadly Assassin, and later became the lead designer for Blake's 7. He became an honorary member in 2021 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 6!
- David Banks
- David gave some excellent performances as the Cyber-Leader during the 1980s and for Big Finish, and he even played the Doctor for two performances of The Ultimate Adventure as Jon Pertwee's understudy. He became an honorary member in 2022 after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 7 and the following year, he visited our society and gave a talk on Cybermen, emotions, and artificially-augmented life!
- Terry Molloy
- The first ever honorary member at our society, Terry was the third actor to play Davros, and would go on reprise the role for countless Big Finish audios. He became an honorary member of our society within its first year (we were founded 8th March 1989), and gave a talk in Michaelmas of that same year.
- Mike Tucker
- Mike Tucker worked as a visual effects assistant for Doctor Who during the late-1980s and as a model unit supervisor during the Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat eras, winning a BAFTA for his work on The Day of the Doctor. He became an honorary member after giving a talk to the society in Hilary 2020!
- Brian Croucher
- As well as playing Borg in The Robots of Death, Brian is perhaps best known for his role as Travis in Blake’s 7. Brian became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Michaelmas 2000.
- Frazer Hines
- Frazer played Jamie McCrimmon, the Second Doctor's Scottish companion, from The Highlanders to The War Games and returned to the role twice in The Five Doctors and The Two Doctors. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Wendy Padbury
- Wendy played the Second Doctor's clever companion, Zoe Heriot from The Wheel in Space to The War Games and once again in The Five Doctors. She became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Jennie Linden
- Jennie played Barbara in Dr. Who and the Daleks, the 1965 film adaptation of The Daleks and featured Peter Cushing as Dr. Who. She became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Sadie Miller
- Sadie is the daughter of the late and much-missed Elisabeth Salden. She wrote the Lethbridge-Stewart novel, Moon Blink and has taken on her mother's role of Sarah Jane Smith for Big Finish since 2021. She became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Christopher Naylor
- Christopher has voiced numerous characters for Big Finish, most notably companion Harry Sullivan, who was originally portrayed by Ian Marter. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- David Gooderson
- David Gooderson played Davros in Destiny of the Daleks, as well as some uncredited Dalek voices in the same story. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Christopher Ryan
- Christopher played the long-suffering Lord Kiv in Mindwarp and returned decades later to play General Staal in The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky and Commander Stark in The Pandorica Opens. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8
- Derek Martin
- Derek worked as a HAVOC stuntman during several Doctor Who serials in the 1960s and 1970s before moving into acting - his best-known role being Charlie Slater from EastEnders. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- Andrew Burford
- Andrew has worked on Doctor Who as a professional stuntman since Thin Ice and memorably held the Twelfth Doctor's unconscious body in his arms during the opening of The Doctor Falls. He became an honorary member after meeting society members at Bedford Who Charity Con 8!
- John Leeson
- The voice behind K9, John has been in and out of Doctor Who for decades, most recently having his own TV series. He became an honorary member of our society in 1991.
- Julian Bleach
- Julian was the fourth actor to portray the megalomaniacal Davros, but he also played The Nightmare Man in The Sarah Jane Adventures and the Ghostmaker in Torchwood's From Out of the Rain. He became an honorary member after meeting members at Bedford Who Charity Con 7 in 2022!
- Miranda Raison
- Miranda appeared (and sang!) in Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks as Tallulah, and she later played Sixth Doctor companion, Constance Clarke in several Big Finish audios. She became an honorary member in 2022 after being met by members at Bedford Who Charity Con 7!
- Toby Jones
- Toby brought to life the Dream Lord in Amy’s Choice, and after his performance, we hope he gets another go sometime soon! He became an honorary member in Michaelmas 2017 after being met by members before his talk at the Oxford Union!
- Peter Miles
- Sadly no longer with us, Peter played a variety of roles in Doctor Who, with appearances in Genesis of the Daleks, The Silurians, and Invasion of the Dinosaurs. Peter became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Hilary 2000.
- Gordon Warnecke
- Gordon played Tuza, the leader of the Thoros-Alphan rebels, in Mindwarp, and is perhaps best known for starring in My Beautiful Laundrette with Daniel Day-Lewis. He became an honorary member after meeting members of the society in 2022 at Bedford Who Charity Con 7!
- Terrance Dicks
- The late Terrance has written for nearly everything Doctor Who, including the series, Virgin New Adventures, Eighth Doctor Adventures and countless Target novelisations. Terrance became an honorary member of our society in 1992, and gave a talk in Michaelmas 1993.
- Murray Gold
- Whether you like All the Strange Strange Creatures, I am the Doctor, The Long Song, or The Shepherd's Boy, Murray was the one who composed it, producing music for the series from 2005 to 2017. Murray became an honorary member in Michaelmas 2017 after being met by members before his talk at the Oxford Union!
- Rob Shearman
- After writing Big Finish audios such as The Holy Terror, The Chimes of Midnight, and Jubilee, Rob adapted the latter into Dalek for the return of the series in 2005. Rob became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Michaelmas 2016!
- Andrew Smith
- The writer of Full Circle and various Big Finish productions, Andrew was for a time the youngest author to have written a serial of Doctor Who. Andrew became an honorary member in Hilary 2016, at the same meeting as Matt Fitton!
- Matt Fitton
- An occasional attendee at meetings, Matt is a prolific writer for Big Finish, having penned works that span its ranges, be they Doctor Who or not! Matt became an honorary member in Hilary 2016, at the same meeting as Andrew Smith!
- Paul Cornell
- As well as writing Father's Day, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, and a range of Virgin New Adventures and Big Finish productions, Paul is also married to one of our former Presidents! Paul became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Michaelmas 1997.
- Simon Guerrier
- Having written for audios, magazines and non-fiction books, Simon is one of the literary maestros of the Doctor Who world. Simon became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Michaelmas 2018!
- Jeremy Bentham
- Co-founder of the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, and former writer for what was then Doctor Who Weekly, Jeremy has been a fan of Doctor Who for many years. Jeremy became an honorary member after giving a talk for the society in Trinity 1992.
- Matthew and Jonathan Toffolo
- As well as appearing on The Review of Death podcast, The Toffolo Brothers run a YouTube channel with over 16,000 subscribers, where they discuss Doctor Who episodes, review merchandise, and create their own stop-motion animated adventures with Doctor Who figurines. They both became honorary members after visiting the society in Hilary 2022!
