- A chance to meet all the other wonderful members of DocSoc and have a friendly chat plus free
drinks and snacks can all be found at Freshers' Drinks. What more could you ask for? Then we kick off the term and
the year with the first episode of new Who and the ninth Doctor's debut. In this episode, we follow Rose Tyler
who meets a mysterious man called the Doctor in the department store where she works while fleeing the attacking window
mannequins. They soon uncover an alien plot by the Nestene Consciousness to take over the Earth and Rose's life is
changed forever.

- Spearhead from Space
- For this week we have the first story with Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor and the late Caroline
John as his companion, Liz Shaw. Exiled to Earth in the late 20th Century and forbidden to continue travelling by his
own people, the Time Lords, the newly regenerated Doctor arrives in Oxley Woods accompanied by a shower of mysterious
meteorites. Investigating these unusual occurrences is the newly-formed United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT).
Led by The Brigadier, UNIT are soon called into action when people and meteorites start going missing.

- An Unearthly Child Episode One & Planet of Giants
- Our first episode theme continues with the very first Doctor Who story. Schoolteachers Ian
Chesterton and Barbara Wright are concerned about one of their pupils, Susan Foreman, and so decide to investigate,
following her to a police call box left in a junkyard... Next, we will be watching the first serial of the second season
of Doctor Who, Planet of Giants. This episode will be shown with the info-text and Matthew narrating; who
says that DocSoc never does anything ducational?

- The Caves of Androzani
- Time for a regeneration story. It's the fifth Doctor and Peri this week in a story voted the single
best televised Doctor Who story in 2009. After landing on the planet Androzani Minor, the Doctor and Peri develop
lethal spectrox toxaemia poisoning. As they search for a cure, they become enmeshed in a decades-old feud between the
disfigured roboticist Sharaz Jek and businessman Morgus. Join us for magma beasts, gun runners, celery, and the delight
that is Peri's wandering accent.

- The Geek Quiz
- In the legendary Geek Quiz, members of Oxford's geekiest societies get together in order to battle it
out for the crown of "team who won that term". If you can write a round not entirely related to Doctor Who, then
bring it along. Be there and not feel square for once (unless your round foxes everyone).

- The Seeds of Doom
- Back to the fourth Doctor this week for a classic episode, noted for its gothic horror influences.
The Seeds Of Doom sees alien seed pods discovered in Antarctic ice. The scientific team there thaw the first one out
but it breaks open and infects one of the crew. The Doctor, played by Tom Baker, and Sarah Jane, Elisabeth Sladen, are
called in by UNIT to investigate. Can the Doctor stop the spread of the galactic weed before all of England is infected
and transformed?

- For this term, we shall be descending upon Pizza Express just off Cornmarket for our termly meal. Come for food,
drink and Who-themed fun.

- The Christmas Specials Marathon
- An entire day of Doctor Who will this term be featuring: The Christmas Invasion, The Runaway Bride,
Voyage of the Damned, The Next Doctor, The End of Time Part 1, The End of Time Part 2, A Christmas
Carol, and The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. And yes, that is a lot of Christmas Who! Or perhaps I should say Oxmas?
Traditionally, pizza will be ordered, drink consumed and many hours of fun had. A marathon not to be missed.

- The Mark of the Rani
- Eighth week is Eighties week which this term means Colin Baker is introduced to a great Who villain, the Rani.
And oh joy, more Peri. In 19th century England, the Doctor finds himself facing two competing enemies: his old adversary, the Master,
and the Rani, another Time Lord with a sinister plan. The local population is turning violent and unpredictable. With a major meeting
of the brains of the Industrial Revolution due to happen in the village soon, the Doctor must work out what exactly is causing all the
problems. Only the Doctor can stop the Master and the Rani's evil plans.
